In-Depth Review
First Choice Power is the affiliate of Texas-New Mexico Power Company, based in Fort Worth Texas, who serves over 263,000 customers in Texas. First Choice Power is the fourth largest retail electricity provider in the state of Texas and has been very active in the deregulated market since it opened up in 2002. In fact, First Choice Power has one of the strongest reputations for active competition in deregulated Texas. While TXU and Reliant often find themselves losing to "hungrier" Retail Electric Providers, First Choice Power has staved off many competitors from having a great deal of success in their home territory.

After price, customer service and account access are the overarching concerns for most customers. First Choce Power has offered online account access and online bill pay for years, something most providers in Texas have yet to do. That type of customer oriented innovation is part of First Choice Power's success story. However, they have had to weather the storm that deregulation brough with it, like anyone else. First Choice Power has overcome most of the serious billing issues that were occuring during the first year of deregulation (2002).

More recently, the highs and lows that have occurred in today's energy markets have taken their toll on First Choice Power. In June of 2005, PNM, an energy holding company based in Albuquerque, N.M absorbed TNP Enterprises (First Choice Power's previous parent company). In return for the 263,000 customers PNM acquired they bring a level of stability and market access to First Choice Power that have a direct and very important impanct on their ability to win new business.

This corporate shake-up also resulted in changes to the First Choice Power management team. The movement of talent from other major Retail Electric Providers to First Choice Power is reflected in First Choice Power's new strategy which includes a stronger commitment to competitive pricing.

The competitive pricing First Choice Power offers is most often seen above a consumption threshold that most small customers don't meet. For this reason, Eisenbach Consulting helps small and medium sized businesses join together in an "aggregation" in order to buy power collectively from Texas electric companies such as First Choice Power, therefore achieving lower rates and higher savings.
